This is how you keep your energy costs low

With the rising energy prices, you naturally want to save energy quickly and cheaply. VERRA Makelaars gives you three tips to keep your energy bills low. Take advantage of it and count your winnings!

Tip 1: make your house draught-free!

The first tip to keep your energy bills low is to make your house draught-free. You can do this by closing all the seams and cracks between window frames and the outer wall or floor. Also by closing the cracks around doors and windows. In addition, making the outside door draught-free and making sure the inside doors close automatically through door closers will help with keeping the house draught-free.

Tip 2: put your boiler on 50 ºC

Put not only your heaters, but also your boiler lower.  Setting your boiler on a lower temperature saves a lot of costs and CO2 emissions. Boilers are standardly set on 80 degrees or higher, which is a high temperature heating. If you put the boiler on 50 degrees, it will take longer before the house is heated. It is therefore important to set the night temperature at least 2 degrees lower than the day temperature on the thermostat.

Tip 3: keep your radiators free

Is your sofa located directly in front of your radiator? Or are the curtains hanging in front? You lose a lot of energy because of this. Move the furniture away from the radiator. Besides, it also pays off to put radiator foil behind the radiator.

The last tip: never turn your radiator fully off. This may sound contradictory if you think about saving energy, but it’s less sustainable than you think. This is because it takes a lot of energy to warm up your house in one go. It’s a lot cheaper when you keep your house at a consistent temperature.
